I gateway per protocolli industriali sono dispositivi essenziali nell'automazione moderna, in quanto consentono la comunicazione tra apparecchiature, sistemi e reti che utilizzano protocolli industriali differenti. Negli ambienti di produzione in cui coesistono tecnologie di diverse generazioni e produttori, questi dispositivi fungono da "traduttori", garantendo l'interoperabilità e un flusso continuo di informazioni.
